Application For The Post Of Governor Of The Bank Of England, And Reply

On September 19, 2012, I wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer applying for the post of Governor of the Bank of England, which was soon to have become vacant. The first link below these three paragraphs is to a PDF file of this letter as sent (without my signature); below that in JPG format is the Government’s response, which rather encouragingly doesn’t say my application has failed.

Two points to note, firstly, I have resisted the temptation to drown this letter with links, and will not add them here, but if you run my name through Google in tandem with “Clive Stafford Smith”, “Satpal Ram”, etc, you will see what I was referring to. All my published writings are listed in the chronological bibliography on my main website.

Secondly, as I have often said, proof-reading requires two pairs of eyes, and there are a couple of minor errors herein: “at the cost of ordinary people” should properly read “at the expense of ordinary people”, and “which will necessity” should read “which will necessitate”.
